Biography

Harm Tiddens is a pediatric respiratory physician and emeritus professor (since 1 October 2023) at the Erasmus MC Sophia Children’s Hospital at the departments of Paediatric pulmonology and Radiology. Since 2022 he is the chief medical officer of the AI company Thirona which is focused on image analysis of the lungs. His research focus has been focused since 1991 on the relation between structure and function of the lung in health and disease. He acquired unique expertise in radiology with a focus on chest computed tomography (CT), chest magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and image analysis. He started the longest running cystic fibrosis (CF) cohort study (since 1996) involving patients monitored with biennial CT,  biennial MRI scan, and extensive lung function. He founded and was the former director and later vice director of the Erasmus MC Lung Analysis core laboratory which executes centralized image analysis for various investigator initiated and industry sponsored studies. Studies involved a wide range of lung diseases such as: CF, COPD, BPD, PCD, PAH, and BE. He has ongoing worldwide collaborations with leading groups in the area of chest CT, and outcome research for a wide range of pulmonary diseases.
